Ever feel like you need a secret decoder ring to understand job descriptions and HR these days? Let's break down some HR speak that's been causing a bit of confusion out there.
🔍 The HR Dictionary: Expectation vs. Reality Edition
• WFH: Newsflash - it doesn't mean "2 days in the office"!
• Remote from anywhere: It's not code for "live within 10 km of the office"
• Hybrid: It's the best of both worlds - some days in the office, some days working from home. Mix it up!
• Unlimited Vacation/Time Off: It's not a trap! Take that time off (within reason, and following policy & guidelines established)
• Competitive Salary: We mean market rates, not "20 years of experience for entry-level pay"
• Reasonable Salary Range: $85K to $300K? That's not a range, that's a lottery!
It’s really not rocket science to be honest, clear, and transparent in job descriptions and in your hiring process.
Companies: You're in the driver's seat! You get to decide on your work options, salary ranges, and time-off policies. Just make sure you're crystal clear about them to employees and candidates
Job seekers: Don't forget, you've got choices too! Figure out what's most important to you in a job and what compromises you're ok with. It's all about finding the right fit. If it doesn’t fit from the beginning then it will never be a true fit, no matter how much seniority you have.
And here's the kicker - BOTH sides need to step up their communication game and set expectations from the beginning. Clear, transparent conversations aren't just a “nice to have”, - they've become essential.
So, let's cut the fluff, ditch the jargon, and start talking like REAL humans. Trust me, it'll make everyone's life easier.
Remember: Be a good leader. Be clear. Be honest. It's not that hard, I promise!
